A Nod to Aunt Marion

Exhibition and call for submissions

Catherine and Bill Callbeck with a painting by Marion Campbell Hinton

A Nod to Aunt Marion, an exhibition of selected works by the late Marion Campbell Hinton, will be on display in the Eptek Art & Culture Centre lobby from May 1–31.

Those familiar with acclaimed painter Georgie Read Barton may recognize her influence in Marion’s style and subject matter, since Marion was a member of the Barton Art Club. Now, her niece and nephew, Catherine and Bill Callbeck, are presenting her very first solo exhibition—while also inviting artists to respond to her work.

During May, Island artists are encouraged to visit the exhibition, become acquainted with Marion’s, and consider how they might interpret her voice in their own work. This initial exhibition will serve as the launch of an Island-wide call for visual art submissions. Artists are invited to create a landscape or still life painting inspired by Marion’s work. Those works will be included in a future exhibition, The Voice of Marion, on view in Eptek’s main gallery from January to March 2027.

Catherine and Bill Callbeck have donated monetary awards to accompany juried recognition in various categories. Entry forms will be available at Eptek from May 1 to November 1. Submission packages can be requested by emailing eptek@gov.pe.ca or calling (902) 888-8373.
