A Whale of a Tale: A Magical Journey and By a Candle’s Warmth

Sheila Kaine Forsyth

Clinton, PEI author Sheila Kaine Forsyth is releasing two new children’s books, A Whale of a Tale: A Magical Journey and By a Candle’s Warmth

A Whale of a Tale is the secret story of how whales were instrumental in the completion of PEI’s link to the rest of Canada, the Confederation Bridge. Without the whales, the bridge would never have happened.

By a Candle’s Warmth centres around an annual tradition of building a runway for Santa’s sleigh from paper-bag luminaria on Christmas Eve. The neighbourhood’s hopes are dashed when a winter storm scatters the bags and blows out the candles. One bag shines true. On Christmas morning it proves to be the refuge of a storm-ravaged bird.

Forsyth is a writer, artist, novelist, playwright, children’s curriculum creator, and a scientist. She is also a visual artist and musician. In A Whale of a Tale, she used her printmaking techniques to create the illustrations. In By a Candle’s Warmth, she crafted oil pastel drawings.

Both books are available via Amazon and copies will be also be on hand at Forsyth’s Two Magical Journeys exhibition event at Eptek Arts & Culture Centre in Summerside on April 26. Forsyth will be onsite at 1 pm to read from her two new books. This family-friendly event is free to attend. The exhibition is on view from April 7–26 in the Eptek lobby.
