Freaky Friday: A New Musical
Bluefield High School’s musical production returns with a high-energy, modern musical, Freaky Friday. This year’s show presents a contemporary musical adaptation of the well-known story. Performances will take place in the Bluefield High School cafeteria, with public showtimes on April 23, 24, and 25 at 7 pm, and a matinee performance on April 26 at 2 pm.
Freaky Friday was adapted for the stage by Bridget Carpenter, a television writer and co-executive producer of Friday Night Lights and Parenthood, and is based on the original novel by Mary Rodgers. The musical score was written by Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning composers Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, known for Next to Normal and If/Then.
The story follows Katherine, an overworked mother, and her teenage daughter, Ellie, who magically swap bodies and have only one day to put things right again. By spending a day in each other’s shoes, they come to appreciate one another’s struggles, learn self-acceptance, and discover the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter. The production promises a hilarious and unexpectedly emotional update on an American classic.
Tickets are available online at locarius.io or at bluefield.edu.pe.ca/extra-curricular/musical-freaky-friday. Tickets will also be sold at the cafeteria entrance prior to each performance.
